Daddy's day gift―父の日のプレゼント―

いつもお世話になっている父にどんな父の日のプレゼントがいいか考えています。

今までの経験上、何か形があって残るのもはいつもポイッ！！！と、おうちのそこらへんに置きっぱなしになって、結局ホコリをかぶって挙句の果てには他のものが上に重なり、使われずにそのうちあげたことも忘れられてしまいます。

受け取る側から、「これが欲しい！！」と言われない限り、勝手にこちらが選んであげてるわけですから、自己満足に近いのかなぁ・・・とも思います。

だったら、その自己満足もかなえ、後に残らない（使い切ってしまえる）プレゼントをしようと考えました。

結果・・・・

スカルプDをあげることにしました。お値段は少々高いけれど、６０歳を過ぎている父が女性家族と同じシャンプーを文句も言わず使っているのは、なかなか心苦しいものです・・・。

緑のカーテン ―ゴーヤを育てる―

日よけのためにゴーヤを育てて緑のカーテン作りに挑戦することにしました。

安くお得に済ませたいと思っていたのですが、必要なものをもろもろ買い揃えたら、結局５０００円程かかってしまいました。

唯一、妥協できなかったのが、ツルを張らせるネット。どこを探しても緑色のネットしか見つからず、インターネットで探しても「ゴーヤネット」で検索すると緑のものばかり。自宅の外壁が茶色なのでどうしても茶色のネットがいい！とあれこれ探していると、６月下旬入荷のものばかり。

諦めずにあれこれと探していると・・・。

やっと見つけました！



ベランダの手すりからプランターまで３メートルほどあるので、長いものをさがしたのですが、今購入できるものでは２.７メートルで最長でした。１.８メートルの同じ商品もあったので、一緒に購入し繋げてしまおうと思います。

届くのが楽しみです！設置をしたら写真をアップしようと思います。

マジックブレット

マジックブレット（Magic Bullet）っていう商品、最近テレビのショッピングチャンネルで見かけます。



２００５年頃だったと思います、私が始めてあのコマーシャルを見たのは。

アメリカに住んでいた頃、息抜きにテレビをつけると必ずといっていいほどあのコマーシャルがやっていました。よくしゃべる男女がオープンキッチンでカウンターに座っている人達に次々とマジックブレットで作ったオムレツやらサルサやらパスタソースやらスムージーやらと、それはそれは商品の名前の通りマジックを繰り広げんばかりに、次々とリクエストされたものを作ってみせます。


あまりにそのコマーシャルを見すぎて、次がなんていうセリフか覚えてしまい、友達とテレビを見ていた時にコマーシャルと同時にセリフ言って大うけされました。おそらく、みんなもそのコマーシャルについて同じように思っていたようです。

よくしゃべる男女だなーーー。そしてテレビをつけるといつもやってる！！！！


毎晩そのコマーシャルを見ていたら、いつの間にかまんまと暗示にかかり、商品を購入していました。なかなかの商品でしたが、引越しをする際に友人にあげてしまいました。

これが２００５年の出来事です。その後、日本へ帰国し、そして・・・・



今、２０１２年、なんと！！！！


ショップチャンネルを見ていたら、、、なつかしいぃぃぃ～（涙）

あのよくしゃべる男女が、というか、あの同じコマーシャルがショップチャンネルで流れているではありませんかっ！！！もちろん流暢に日本語を話してました。吹き替えです。


そこで感じました。こんなに商品のヒットというか、販売のタイムラグがあるのか・・・・と。


値段は・・・・？やっぱり、違いました。送料を入れてもアメリカの方が安かったです。確かに付録のレシピや説明書が英語で書かれてあるため、英語は全くダメと言う方はやめたほうがいいかもしれません。ただ、使い方やレシピはあのよくしゃべるコマーシャルや、ネットで調べれば簡単に出てきます。実際に見て値段を比べてみてください。


今や円高が後押しして、アメリカのアマゾンで購入したほうが送料を入れても約￥4,000も安く手に入ります。（実際にアメリカのアマゾンで購入確定の直前まで登録し、送料込みの料金を出してみました。）

なんだか・・・・日本で売るというだけで、こんなにも上乗せされて売っているとは・・・・少しショックでした。英語での登録って慣れていないとなんだかすごく難しいように感じてしまうかもしれないけど、実際は日本のアマゾンと登録しなければならない情報やその順番はほとんど同じなのです。ただアルファベットで入力するだけです。それで同じものが安く手に入るなら・・・・？

くるくるドライヤー

海外に滞在中で、くるくるドライヤーを使用している日本人の方に朗報です！アメリカで日本製の使い慣れたくるくるドライヤーが購入できます。

滞在中に持参したくるくるドライヤーが壊れてしまって困ったことありませんか？

私はありました。５年間アメリカに滞在していたのですが、なぜ電気屋さんやWalmartでさえ日本のようなくるくるドライヤーを売っていないのでしょうか？

私が不器用なこともあると思いますが、普通のただ風が出てくるだけのドライヤーではどうにもうまくセットができません。特にたいしたセットをしている訳ではないのですが・・・。（笑）

ところが！！！今ではAmazon.comで日本モデルのくるくるドライヤーが手に入ります！！！便利な世の中になったものです。

Kurukuru Hair Dryer

Have you seen hair dryer with brush on it?

I know you may feel.... what are you talking about?

BUT! This is really big deal for me.

In Japan, brush hair dryer is really common for girls and it is called “KURUKURU Hair Dryer”. I have been using it for more than 15 years and I can’t use ordinary blow dryer any more.

I used to live in a dorm in Colorado State University. One day, I was using my Kurukuru hair dryer that I brought from Japan as usual at my dorm bath room. And one of my dormmates came in to wash her face. She looked at me curiously asking “What is that!!???” And I go “Hair dryer.” She was so impressed that hair dryer has brush on it. I let her try it and she wanted to buy one. So I went to stores to look for it. Well, it’s not only for my dormmate but also I needed to make sure they sell it for in case if mine is broken. (Like I said I cannot use ordinary one.) I went my favorite place Walmart but couldn’t find one. Tried Best Buy, Safeways and any other possible places but can’t find it!!!

Why??? Why they don’t sell Kurukuru hair dryer in the US?

It is so useful item.  When you use ordinary blow dryer, your both hands are occupied by dryer and brush. However, hair dryer has brush on it and one hand can be free so that I can hold my hair with the hand. No need to worry about hair going random direction by blowing wind with hair dryer.

 

I don’t know why I didn’t try Amazon.com at that time but I know now. Even you cannot find it at super market, you can get it from Amazon! Check it out!

Itchy.....!!!!!

The place I started my life in the US was Colorado. Colorado….. hum… Rocky mountain? Beautiful nature? Winter sports? Hot spring? No no no….

Soooooo DRY!!! Even when I got there was in May, it is so dry especially compare to Japan. Of course, I didn’t bring body cream or any from Japan.

So I started to feel itchy on my skin and scratched. You know what happens next...

Still itchy!!!!  Never stop!!!

Then I decided to buy one. Where? There is Walmart about one hour walk!!!

Oh well, nothing to do anyway so why not?

I felt nice fresh breeze and walked one hour to get a just body cream. Oh, by the way, I didn’t know what the Walmart looks like at that time. Oh my god….

It’s humongous!!!   It’s like a amusement park in Japan!!! That made me so excited but immediately I realized that how I’m gonna find a body cream in this huge store….And I wasn’t brave enough to ask employees where body cream at. It took me 15 minutes to find body cream eventually but this was just a beginning.

There are so many different kinds of body cream and lotion etc!!!! I don’t know which one to buy!!! Anyway, first thing I did was just compare all the price and pick one which is not too cheap but not too expensive (I appreciate that numbers are worldwide). Of course, it’s all written in English and all I could understand was “body lotion”. 

…………….. 

Then I remembered that I have electronic

dictionary!!!  Wooohooo!!!  Opened up the dictionary and first word I typed in was “ITCHY”. Yes, I picked the right one! Then for some reason, I started to type in all the words in label that I don’t know starting from “Direction” to “Distearyldimonium”. After I could understand what it says (it took me almost 20 mins), I noticed that there are similar products around. And I was curious what the differences are between those. When I decided which one to buy finally, I was so exhausted. You know why…..

I was standing in front of body cream section with electronic dictionary for 2 hours!

It was such a productive 4 hours short trip to just get a body cream. haha. I can’t believe that I spent 4 hours for it. But I won’t forget the word forever…..

My first...

So…. I decided to go to the US to learn English. I thought it would be the best way to learn and still believe that I made a right choice. As you can see, I’m writing my blog in English. (not much difficult sentences thought….and I'm sure you will find so many mistakes but.... who cares!!!)

Anyway, now it’s all funny memories but it was not easy at all for me to live in a different country. I’m sure everyone feels same way. Only my regret is..... I should’ve studied English harder in my school-days in Japan.

First thing came up in my mind about funny story was happened when I was crossing the street. I was waiting cars passing by to across the street and one car stopped to let me go. I just naturally bowed and started walking. It’s common for Japanese that people bow when showing appreciation. Then a few seconds later, I felt something weird and realized that the driver was still looking at me and laughing! 



Now I know…. I’ve never seen anyone bowing in same situation in the US. They just smile or raise their hand.

                                 .....too sarcastic?  ;p

とにかく、私は英語を学びにアメリカに行くことに決めました。英語を学ぶにはアメリカへ行ってしまうことが一番よい方法だと思ったし、今でもその決断は間違いではなかったと確信しています。こうやって英語でブログも書けるようになったことだし（そんなに難しい文章は使ってないですね・・・・間違いもたくさつ見つかってしまうかも・・・；ｐ）

そんなことはさておき、今になってみれば全て面白おかしい思い出となっておりますが、自分が育った国でないところに住むというのはなかなか簡単なものではありませんでした。誰もがそうだと思います。たった一つアメリカに着いて後悔したこと・・・それは、学生時代にもっと一生懸命英語を勉強していればよかった・・・。


おかしな出来事として一番最初に思い出されるのは、道路を渡ろうと横断歩道に立っていたときに起きました。車が通り過ぎるのを待っていたところ、一台の車が止まり私を先に渡らせようとしてくれました。自然と軽く会釈をして横断歩道を渡り始めました。感謝を表す時にお辞儀をすることは日本人にとっては当たり前のことです。しかしほんの数秒後・・・・何か変な感じがしました。止まってくれた車のドライバーは私を見て笑ってるじゃないですか！！！！


今になって思えば、私がアメリカで車を運転していて歩行者に頭をさげられたことは、一度もありません。みんなかっこよく片手を挙げたり、笑顔をこちらに向けてきました・・・。
